Project Brief

The project addresses the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) needs of South Sudanese refugees and host communities in Bidibidi refugee settlement. The project creates linkages between refugees and national populations by designing and implementing sustainable WASH interventions that complement the efforts of the Government of Uganda (GoU), UNHCR and other partner organizations.
Some of the key interventions by the project include; Construction of solar powered hybrid large scale and mini water systems; Construction of WASH facilities in key institutions like schools and health centres; Sensitizing refugees and host communities on issues of sanitation and hygiene. In addition, we have continued to enhance the management and longevity of the WASH facilities by engaging a standby O&M company to undertake preventive and corrective maintenance of the water systems. We have also continued to undertake capacity enhancement of water user committees (WUCs), system operators, water source caretakers, individual household members, local health staff, and school management committees.
