ACORD UG Launched Solar Power Project

 

On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, ACORD-U Senior Management team headed by the Country Director Ms. Ellen Kajura Bajenja joined the Chairman of LCV Ntungamo District Mr Muchunguzi Samuel to Commission a Solar-powered Water Supply system. The system is intended to serve 200 households in Bukiro village, Nyongozi ward, Nyamukana town council Ruhama county Ntungamo district. The commissioning was witnessed by other Local Government Officials including the Deputy RDC Ntungamo Mr. Nuwamanya Robert Kamuntu, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) stakeholders, environmental experts, and implementors, as well as representatives from the community. Also in attendance were members of the ACORD-U Extended Management team and ACORD-U SW Regional team.

Officiating at the event alongside the senior management team, Ms. Ellen together with Chairman LC. V Ntungamo and Deputy RDC launched an environment conservation seed fund which is intended to benefit twenty (20) Environment conservation associations located in two micro catchments of Rwizi of Bujaga micro-catchment and Kibaare-Nyamukana micro-catchment.

This seed fund will be used by community groups to engage in alternative income-generating activities that are environmentally friendly and advance catchment protection practices including soil-water conservation, improved cropping mechanisms, wetland restoration, and gully rehabilitation.

ACORD Launched Solar Power Project

 

Within the Integrated Water Resources Management strategic area, ACORD-U is implementing a project titled “Promoting Restoration and Protection of River Rwizi Systems and Catchment Area” in South-Western Uganda with the goal of contributing to a fully restored River Rwizi catchment for the sustainable well-being of all persons in the catchment area.

 

The project is funded by Bread for the World (BFTW) a German NGO with a project area constituted by six (6) Micro-catchments of Ihoho, Kongoro, Nyakaikara, Bujaga/Nyakahanga, Kibaare, and Kakondo-Kamukaki that are located in Rwizi Catchment which drains into Lake Victoria. ACORD-U believes that one day there will be a society in which all people are able to achieve their rights and fulfil their responsibilities in order to foster sustainable community development.
