Project Brief
The project supports women groups and related entities like schools and churches to improve resilience and adaptation to the effects of climate change in South Western Uganda. In response to the uncertainties and challenges caused by climate change, the project promotes simple but effective localized technologies to equip the beneficiaries with adaptive capabilities to maintain and sustain a resilient livelihood.
As a strategy, the project works with beneficiaries to undertake: Micro-irrigation for increased and continuous crop production; Rainwater harvesting to enhance availability of adequate and clean water; Clean energy utilization such as solar powered water pumping to reduce carbon emission; Agroforestry focusing on fruit tree growing and Energy efficient cooking to reduce deforestation, vegetable cover destruction and smoke related diseases.
Other project interventions include; training of local masons, school committees and women groups in climate change adaptation, backyard gardening and water conservation.
Key Approaches
- Leveraging on existing community resources to optimize benefits and maximize impact.
- Working with and for groups that are predominantly constituted by women and empowering them to spearhead key project processes.
- Promoting data (e.g. rainfall patterns) driven climate change responses and decision making.
